Taped by Mr. Paul Marnell Himself. One cheap dynamic card mic strung from the ceiling
and hung in front of the drums behind the PA. (hence the mix) Not that the PA was so
great- it was an 8 track Karoke machine with a built-in 10" speaker, 2 mics, and bad
reverb. This was one of it's last gigs. This is also John Choinard's (sp?) first gig as
light director. He screwed in a blacklite bulb and flicked it on and off periodically.
This actually lead to a regular gig! The majority of folks at this party were upstairs
while we played and came down between sets because it was so loud in this 10' x 25'
concrete tomb. Paul makes a comment about the police and the noise, but people came
down and were surprised to find a live band. A very loud live band. As the night went on,
it turned into The Bob Bond Show on Paul's acoustic, then Paul sits in, then we all
switch back to electric for a long (most likely sloppy) Dark Star -> something else...
By Feburary, Paul joined in as rhythm and vocals and we changed our name from "Jeff & Ger"
to "BIG WORDS" (that didn't last) and by March, 1994, we settled on "Gene Pool" and Paul
drew the logo.
There you have it- a snapshot of Flint's #1 underground cover band in it's embryonic stage.
Remixed 1995.
Properly remixed and edited, pitch corrected, and hiss removed (there are
cheap cassette anomolies present) via Cakewalk October,2007.
Enjoy!
Bob Bond

vivid and not so vivid
Bob's account of Gene Pool shows are so crystal clear that I feel like I am living them for the first time..when in fact I was indeed there...I think. Thanks for the memories Bob. -John Chouinard
